We have an exciting opportunity to join the technical team within the School of Education, Sport and Health Sciences. In your new role you will be supporting a range of teaching and research activities within our Art studios and Design & Technology workshops which are primarily used for our teacher training and occupational therapy provision.

Training will be provided, but a desire to deliver a high-quality service to our staff and students is essential. In this role you will be preparing equipment and resources for teaching sessions, supporting staff and students, as well as ensuring the Art studios and Design & Technology workshops and equipment are well maintained.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Setting up and maintaining equipment and materials for teaching and research activities
•  Ensuring laboratories and equipment are kept to a high standard of safety and functionality
• Providing hands-on technical support and guidance to staff and students

To be successful in this role you should have:

• Experience in an Art or Design & Technology discipline.
• Ability to communicate with a range of individuals.
• A good understanding of basic Health and Safety principles.
• Motivation, and the ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
• Experience of providing technical support.

This is an 18-month fixed-term role and is full-time (37 hours a week), with a generous 30 days annual leave entitlement, in addition to bank holidays and Christmas closure. This role is based in our modern teaching and research facilities on our Falmer campus.

Working across a portfolio of high-profile partnerships, you will help to ensure that programmes are delivered efficiently, compliantly and to an exceptional standard, supporting trainees, academic colleagues and partner organisations throughout the student lifecycle.

This is a varied role combining project management, partnership working, operational leadership and financial oversight. You will work with senior academic staff, professional services colleagues, schools, funding organisations and external regulators to ensure our SCITT provision continues to grow successfully while maintaining the highest standards of quality and student experience.

Reporting to the Director of College Operations, you will oversee the operational management of a portfolio of School-Centred Initial Teacher Training partnerships, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and in accordance with University, Department for Education and regulatory requirements.

You will:

• Lead the day-to-day project management of multiple SCITT partnerships and programmes.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with partner schools, training providers and funding organisations.
• Coordinate complex programme activity across the University and external partners.
• Guide trainees through the administrative and operational aspects of their programme from enrolment through to qualification.
• Work with academic colleagues to adapt University processes and systems to support innovative hybrid delivery models.
• Monitor project budgets, financial performance and funding requirements.
• Ensure compliance with partnership agreements, funding conditions and quality assurance requirements.
• Produce management information and reports to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate assessment administration, examination board processes and student record management.
• Identify operational risks and implement effective solutions to ensure successful project delivery.

You will be an organised and proactive project manager with excellent relationship management skills and experience of coordinating complex programmes involving multiple stakeholders.

You will have:

• Experience of successfully managing complex projects from inception through to delivery.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Experience of managing budgets and monitoring financial performance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• A degree or equivalent professional experience.

Experience within higher education, teacher education, educational partnerships or externally funded programmes would be advantageous.

We’re offering an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant technical team within the School of Education, Sport & Health Sciences at the University of Brighton, supporting cutting-edge teaching and research within our newly developed Sport & Exercise Science laboratories at the Falmer campus.

Technical staff are fundamental to the operation of the School and the University. Working alongside the academic team and line manager, you will use your initiative to organise technical demonstrations, inductions, and instructions for students and staff in your specialist area, for learning and teaching and for research and knowledge exchange. You will provide specialist professional advice to all staff and students and contribute to the development of new and innovative techniques.

To set up and maintain specialist learning spaces and set models of good practice, ensuring the readiness of resources and equipment. You will ensure that work is conducted safely, and that current health and safety guidelines are adhered to in your area.

In a wider context, as a valued member of the technical team, to provide general support to the wider school as required and assist technical colleagues at times of increased demand.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing and maintaining specialist laboratory equipment and software.
• Giving hands-on technical support for practical teaching sessions.
• Advising on best practices and techniques in Sport & Exercise Science.
• Supporting teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities and ensuring safe, effective lab operations.
• Delivering technical instruction to students & staff.

• Proven experience with techniques, equipment, and software relevant to Sport & Exercise Science.

As a Senior Technician, you’ll play a key role in delivering an outstanding practical learning experience. You’ll be responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and safe operation of specialist equipment and resources, while providing expert technical support to both students and academic staff within our Sport & Exercise science laboratories. 

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Setting up and maintaining equipment and materials for teaching and research activities
• Ensuring laboratories and equipment are kept to a high standard of safety and functionality
• Providing hands-on technical support and guidance to staff and students

What we’re looking for:

• Experience in a science or sport-related discipline, with practical technical skills
• A good understanding of health and safety in a laboratory or technical setting
• Strong knowledge and experience of maintaining equipment
• The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
