We are looking to appoint a new Dean of the School of Art and Media to replace our existing Dean, Amanda Bright, who retires at the beginning of August after 5 years with the University. She has played a leading role in the transformation of the School of Art which has only recently merged with our School of Media to form the new School of Art and Media. 

The new Dean will have an exciting opportunity to build on Amanda Bright’s achievements and to establish the vision for the new School of Art and Media in the context of the University Strategy ‘Practical Wisdom’ and seek to reflect the university values of creativity, inclusivity, sustainability and partnership through its culture, creative and academic portfolio and research.

The Dean will play a pivotal role in the strategic development, operation and academic performance of the School in relation to education, student experience and research. The Dean will provide academic vision and direction to the school, effective leadership of staff and management of resources.

Furthermore, as a senior leader of the University, the Dean of the school will be collectively responsible, with the University Executive Board, for shaping the academic strategic direction, development and performance of the university through specific institution-wide responsibilities.  

The Dean will represent the School and the University externally to further enhance the School’s outstanding reputation and further build on the School’s  extensive regional, national and international partnerships. 

We are, therefore, looking for candidates who will bring truly inspirational leadership and creative thinking, the ability to build on the natural synergies between art and media, and a pioneering, transformative outlook to practice-based education and research, as well as the ability to negotiate and navigate complex situations.
