Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Music Business & Media (0.6 Full time equivalent)

This role focuses on students on our BA(Hons) Music Business and Media course, but duties may also overlap with provision for BA(Hons) Media Studies, BA(Hons) Media, Industry and Innovation and BA(Hons) Media and Environmental Communication who share some modules as well as potentially our MA Digital Media, Culture and Society, so you should have a willingness to engage with students from those backgrounds too. 

Knowledge of current trends in popular music and media scholarship, as well as within the creative industries is essential and it would be desirable to have experience working in the creative or professional industry. 

A background in undergraduate and post graduate taught teaching and practice-led research is required, as are the skills to work flexibly within a team and to effectively time manage and meet pressing deadlines.

Core elements of the role include:

  • To add to and expand the student-focused teaching expertise in the areas of popular music and media.
  • To contribute to teaching on a range of theory and applied modules within the Media programme, (which may include) Popular Music: Histories and ContextsMusic, Technology and Everyday Life, Media and Popular Culture, Popular Music Industries, Music Innovation: Design and Development
  • To translate key skills and knowledge of industry practice to a diverse student cohort which will include supervision of students on placement and through their final Live Project.
  • To foster new relationships with commercial and cultural institutions that will enhance student opportunities.
  • To foster organisational skills around course management and curriculum delivery, and to nurture creativity and artistic flair across our student community.
  • To inspire and drive the creative vision of the course and the team.
  • To survey, maintain and support all academic processes.
  • To conduct and develop own research and practice.

In a city with a wealth of creative and digital enterprise, the School has built a strong set of pedagogic and enterprise relationships with key media and arts organisations, including the Brighton Festival, Brighton Fringe, Brighton Digital Festival and Wired Sussex among others.

You will be based at our campus at Mouslecoomb in the heart of the university’s central hub and our Big Build project which is transforming the local area, student and staff experience.
