Lecturer in Product Design (0.6 full-time equivalent)

We are looking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and technologically focussed Lecturer to work with us on our Product Design with Professional Experience course, which offers the opportunity to study towards a 3 or 4 year BSc(Hons) or BA(Hons) award, preparing students for work in the fields of product and industrial design as well as giving them the ability to employ their skills and abilities in a wide range of related job roles. The course encompasses new developments in technology as well as the exploration of the implications of the use of technology on the environment, society and individuals. The course encourages a hands-on practical and experimental approach to design, where students are able to develop their ideas iteratively and through testing and prototyping. 

You will have previous experience of teaching technology in relation to product or industrial design at undergraduate level or equivalent as well as a track record including both professional experience and research in product and industrial design related areas. The Product Design course is closely linked to the University of Brighton Fab Lab and the ideal candidate will be able to contribute to the running and future development of this resource. 

This post requires specific skills and experience namely a solid and practical understanding of the technologies and processes that can be used in the manufacturing and prototyping of physical and digital products, including the suitability of particular prototyping processes to test and develop designs for batch and high volume manufacturing; teaching and learning good practice; competent IT skills and effective use of IT for teaching, learning and communication.

This is a 0.6FTE permanent post.
