Research Engineer (KTP Associate)

plus £4k personal development budget

An exciting opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic and self motivated Engineering or Physics graduate to lead an impactful commercial project with European Thermodynamics Limited to embed a capability and implement a prototyping facility to bring to market novel advanced heat pipes to optimise thermal management in a range of applications. This position is a 2 year fixed term contract, with a £4k dedicated training budget tailored towards your personal development.  The initial 6-9 months of the post are expected to be based at the University of Brighton, with the remainder of the project being based at the company in Leicester.  There may be an opportunity to register for a higher degree.


You will have a minimum BEng Hons in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related Engineering degree, together with a higher degree reflecting the need for theoretical knowledge and research enquiry skills. PhD level experience in Engineering or experimental physics is desirable. Experience in heat pipes is desirable.

Main areas of responsibility: 

The Associate will:

  • Research and carry literature reviews into the state of the art.
  • Characterise existing processes
  • Select applications for the primary design and agree project approach
  • Set up a lab scale test facility, undertake tests, and training
  • Establish testing protocols and set up manufacturing processes.
  • Map out product variations needed for different applications
  • Potential future explored and training completed.

Leicestershire based company European Thermodynamics Ltd (ETL) ( provide high integrity thermal solutions and simulation services to customers who all need solutions to manage temperature and ensure reliable operation within electronic or mechanical systems.
