Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Learning and Teaching (0.4 full-time equivalent)

Centre for Learning and Teaching

Location:  Brighton - Falmer
Salary:  £35,845 to £51,034 pro rata
Fixed Term End Date: 31/08/2021
Closing Date:  Monday 17 August 2020
Interview Date:  Monday 21 September 2020
Reference:  ET3007Z-20-179

The Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) works with colleagues across the University of Brighton and partner institutions to improve the student learning experience.  This includes consultancy to individuals and course teams, professional development through courses, seminars and online resources, and a variety of events and conferences, all of which underpin the Education and Student Experience Strategic Plan.  The team also undertakes educational research projects and contributes to the development of institutional and national policy.

This role is wide-ranging, engaging colleagues in new educational development approaches and the introduction of policies and practice across the institution, e.g. the Digitally Enabled Learning initiative; working with a specific School to implement and embed the Education and Student Experience strategic plan and representing the Centre at committees, department meetings and working groups. The specific focus of the role is in supporting academic colleagues to: embed study skills in the curriculum; support student transition and engagement in higher education; and to develop peer learning opportunities.

The successful applicant will have an undergraduate degree, and ideally a postgraduate qualification. With a sound knowledge of learning and teaching practice in higher education, the candidate will be able to demonstrate experience and/or knowledge of current research and professional developments as well as an understanding of contemporary issues in higher education.

The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues, creatively and collaboratively, to develop positive working relationships and effect lasting change.  Competent IT skills, with particular focus on effective use of technologies for teaching and learning will be essential.

The team works flexibly across the institution and your hours, and location of working, will reflect this.  This would be a good opportunity for someone looking to enhance an existing lecturing or professional services role through working as part of a central team focused on strategic change in higher education and the student experience at the University of Brighton.

This post is part-time (0.4 full-time equivalent) and fixed term until 31.08.2021, as it forms part of an existing job share.
