Research Fellow in Resilience (0.4760 full-time equivalent)

The Centre of Resilience for Social Justice is co-productively exploring learning regarding the resilience-building potential of positive identity formation, with, by and for young people facing multiple disadvantages. More specifically, with an interdisciplinary team this study will develop an approach to test the role of civic activism as both an intervention and systems response to the youth mental health crisis.  

This post has the following aims:

• To explore past literature on civic activism and mental health and related areas.

• To contribute to the development of a civic activism intervention for resilience and mental health.

• To conduct pilot study of the research process for such an intervention.

A good (1 or 2:1) degree, preferably in a social science subject is required; sufficient, up to date breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes, and a proven ability in undertaking systematic review and of writing up results for different stakeholders including reports and publications in referred journals is expected. 

We are a dynamic team of academics and community partners developing and researching resilience-based practice. We are a team of co-researchers in a very exciting learning journey utilising research and developing practice around civic activism as a mechanism to build resilience and improve mental health outcomes for those especially socially disadvantaged. This post is part of the School of Health Sciences and the Centre of Resilience for Social Justice. Based at our Falmer campus, the post will involve regular travel within the UK but also internationally to share our exciting research.
