Lecturer in Sociology (0.4 full-time equivalent)

School of Applied Social Science

Location:  Brighton - Falmer
Salary:  £36,382 to £43,434 pro rata
Fixed Term End Date: 31/08/2022
Closing Date:  Sunday 26 September 2021
Reference:  HU3183-21-293

This is an opportunity for a lecturer (teaching and research focused) in sociology to join a team with wide-ranging interests across sociology and the social sciences more generally.

A PhD in Sociology (or near completion) is essential. You will have an up-to-date, broad-based knowledge of sociology sufficient to teach widely across our undergraduate programme, and a proven interest in social inequality.

This is a fixed term post until 31st August 2022 to cover a period of research leave. Job sharers are welcome to apply. The start date would be as soon as mutually agreeable.

The University offers a wide range of benefits, such as a generous annual leave package and travel loan schemes.

We are committed to diversifying the racial and ethnic profile of our community, and especially welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates. We are seeking colleagues who have an understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion and how these principles can be applied in HE settings. We value self-awareness, in terms of understanding candidates’ own culture, identity, biases, prejudices, power, privilege and stereotypes, as well as a willingness to challenge practices that present barriers to different groups.

We recognise that there is a lot of uncertainty in the sector at present and full support would be provided for delivering any online teaching. We are a sociable and supportive sociology team who meet regularly.

Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Lesley Murray at: l.murray@brighton.ac.uk
