Your expertise in global histories, practices and cultures of design are welcome in the School of Humanities and Social Science, as well as at the Centre for Design History with its academically rewarding, encouraging and supportive environment.
You will work on a UKRI funded project involving research partners in the UK and India and will have the opportunity to engage in a range of tasks from organising international workshops; analysing historical and contemporary data; undertaking literature reviews; writing reports and sharing findings with stakeholders in design and policy.
You will contribute to writing up research work for publication or dissemination of research findings including presenting at conferences and/or other appropriate events. You will develop research objectives and proposals for joint research, initially with the assistance of the mentor who in this case will be the Principal Investigator of the funded project.
The research team is inter-disciplinary, involving academics, designers and policy makers from design history and studies, architecture, and materials science backgrounds.
To succeed in the role, you will have:
- A demonstrable knowledge of design history and practices and have some experience of working in a team.
- A relevant degree, preferably in Design, Design History, Art History, or Architecture (or any aligned disciplines)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills both verbally and in writing
- Sufficient, up to date breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline of design history and studies, or aligned areas such as art history, architecture history, visual culture, or material culture.
- Undertake research for the project, and contribute to dissemination activities.
There will be some travel involved, included a visit to research partners in India, as well as for fieldwork in easily accessible parts of the UK.
You will primarily be based at the Moulsecoomb campus of the University, but you also be able to work independently and remotely in some weeks.
