Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Fashion Design (0.6 full-time equivalent)

We are looking for a part-time (0.6 FTE) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Fashion Design to support the existing course team. You will have had previous experience in a creative design role within the fashion Industry. This post requires extensive knowledge and experience of professional fashion design practices, including; creative design research methodologies, 2D and 3D design development processes and a range of creative presentation approaches. You should be able to demonstrate the ability to support students’ creative development from concept to final product realisation, and you should have demonstrable skills in creative pattern cutting, a good awareness of garment manufacturing processes, and an in-depth awareness of contemporary fashion design. Skills and experience using a range of digital solutions and specialist software packages applicable to fashion design and product development are also highly desirable.

You will show a flexible and agile approach to curriculum development, potentially to teach into a wider range of courses as the school continues to develop.  You will work with colleagues to realise a collective vision that will take the course forward in its next iteration.  Central to this will be the ability to build a peer learning community which is both supportive and stable and at the same time challenging, vibrant and dynamic.  

An  awareness of current trends and new development within fashion design and the fashion industry, as well as within the creative industries is essential, along with experience of working in the creative or professional industry. 

A background in undergraduate teaching and practice-led research is required, as are the skills to work flexibly within a team and to effectively time manage and meet pressing deadlines.

Core elements of the role include:

  • To add to and expand the student-focused teaching expertise in the areas of fashion design.
  • To contribute to teaching on a range of practice modules within the BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Business Studies.
  • To translate key skills and knowledge of industry practice to a diverse student cohort through module delivery, workshop practice and pastoral support
  • To foster new relationships with commercial and cultural institutions that will enhance student opportunities.
  • Working knowledge of relevant technology and packages such as Adobe Creative packages and Clo3d would be an advantage.
  • Develop research and scholarship through your own recent professional experience that demonstrates a clear understanding of the relationship between craft and the establishment of a creative practice.
  • To foster organisational skills around course management and curriculum delivery, and to nurture creativity and artistic flair across our student community.
  • To inspire and contribute to the creative vision of the course and the team.
  • To survey, maintain and support all academic processes.
  • To conduct and develop own research and practice.

The successful candidate will join the School of Art and Media – Subject Group of Fashion, Textiles and 3D Design and Craft,  based at our campus at Grand Parade in the city centre, a hub for the University’s creative courses, ground-breaking exhibitions and international research.
