The University of Brighton are looking for visiting lecturers to teach into its undergraduate course BA (Hons) Digital Music and Sound Arts

The above course is recruiting hourly paid tutors for both practice-based and historical & critical study modules. Practice modules support the development of the student’s personalised approach to making whilst historical and critical studies provide frameworks and histories in which students learn to evaluate their own work as well as the work of others. 

Students across all three courses engage with sound, experimental music and their debates and applications across fields such as sound art, animation and film.

Digital Music and Sound Arts seek tutors in

• Experimental music and sound contemporary debates

• sound processing software (Logic Pro, MAX/MSP, Pure Data),  

• sound art practices including composition / sound design, sound / music for interactive audio-visual media/installation practices,  

• audio programming for games or/and new media including aspects of acoustic/psychoacoustics.

The maximum hours offered would be 50 over the course of the academic year

• Candidates should be prepared to deliver lectures, practical seminars, workshops and tutorials.

• Carry associated administrative tasks within an established programme of study.

• Set and mark assignments, assess the work and progress of students and provide constructive feedback to students 

• May co-ordinate small modules, in own subject area 

• Attend and participate in module team meetings, liaising with colleagues as necessary 

• Engage in the requisite scholarly activity that will maintain their familiarity with current developments in their academic field which is necessary for the preservation of their academic standing 

• Reflect on practice and development of teaching and learning skills 

• Continually update knowledge and understanding in field or specialism 

• Understand equal opportunities in relation to academic content and issues relating to student need.

The successful candidate will have :

• a post graduate qualification and/or extensive relevant professional experience in the discipline

• Ability to devise teaching materials suitable for teaching undergraduate students

• Knowledge of a variety of pedagogic approaches, relevant to higher education

• Student-centred attitudes including an appreciation of the diverse backgrounds of HE students and the academic and personal issues they typically encounter while at university

• Good communication skills
