Caretaker

Residential and Hospitality Operations

Location:  Brighton - Varley Park
Salary:  £18,342 to £19,612 pro rata
plus 10% shift allowance
Contract Length: 12 months
Closing Date:  Sunday 19 July 2020

Our Caretakers work flexibly as part of a small, friendly team and play a key role in ensuring a pleasant home environment for our students. Based at our Moulsecoomb Halls of Residence, the role will involve general day-to-day maintenance tasks, providing a security presence, general reception-based duties and being a first point of contact for our students and visitors.

To succeed in the role, you will need experience of resolving basic maintenance issues and of working in an environment where high standards of cleanliness, safety, security and organisation were required.  The ability to work as part of a small team and contribute ideas is also essential, as is the ability to work with limited supervision and complete tasks independently. An awareness of the issues facing students in an academic environment would also be helpful.

Hours of work are based around typical shifts of: 07:00 - 14.45  or  13:45 - 21:45 on a rota basis, 5 days out of 7.  You will be required to wear the provided protective clothing/uniform in line with our uniform policy, details of which will be discussed at interview.  In addition to the salary, you will be paid a 10% shift allowance.

In return, the university offers a generous annual leave package, including time off over Christmas, and an attractive pension scheme.
