This is an exciting opportunity to join the technical team supporting teaching and research activities within the Civil Engineering division of the School of Architecture Technology and Engineering. 

Your role will be to provide support for the laboratories and workshops, training of Staff and students in safe working practices within laboratories and workshops and the manufacturing of lab equipment for use by both students and researchers.

You will be part of a small team of technical staff who are involved in a wide range of specialist activities, covering disciplines such as the production of concrete structures, land surveying, destructive testing, supporting the hydraulics laboratory (water) and equipment maintenance.  The role is very diverse and interesting, with the opportunity for the right candidate to learn new disciplines. Training in all aspects of the role will be provided.

Many aspects of the role are unique to the University environment so experience is not as important as the qualities a candidate can demonstrate. To succeed you will need to show you have good practical skills and are able to translate people’s ideas in to working concepts, are capable of working within a small team and are readily able to adapt to rapidly changing situations.  You should have a good understanding of engineering materials, either gained formally or through hobbies and interests.  You must also show you have a broad understanding of the Health and Safety at work act and its implications within the workplace, and strong communication skills are crucial to be able to deliver a 1st class service to our students and researchers.
