We are seeking an experienced Interim Head of Data Compliance and Records Manager to be responsible for the University’s Data Protection Strategy and Records Management. 

In this important role you will act as Lead Adviser on GDPR/Data Protection activities across the University communicating Data Protection requirements, the risks of non-compliance and establishing a compliance culture across the University and be responsible for the monitoring of GDPR/Data compliance and to challenge areas of the University at risk of non-compliance.

You will act as Data Protection Officer and as such will hold professional accountability for the university’s approach to data protection, shaping the strategy, planning, policies, processes and improvement initiatives of the University.   You will manage and develop a team of specialists and provide oversight of Data Protection, Records Management, Freedom of Information and e-privacy regulation arrangements.

You will:

  • Develop and implement a monitoring framework consisting of policies, procedures, processes, guidance and metrics to ensure compliance with data protection law and regulation using a risk-based approach that aligns with relevant quality standards
  • Provide expert, accurate advice and guidance to senior management, staff, students, suppliers and other relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance 
  • Lead training and awareness across the University and develop appropriate management information to report on compliance 
  • Oversee the effective handling and processing of complaints, queries and information requests from Data Subjects and oversee the effective processing of Freedom of Information or Environmental Information Requests

You will work closely with colleagues at all levels, from across the university to ensure personal data processing of data subjects (for example, staff and students) is compliant with applicable Data Protection legislation, and associated risks are managed. 

To succeed in this role you will have a working knowledge of the requirements established by data protection and freedom of information/EIR legislation, with experience of applying the legislation, or a role involving confidential information and governance.
